We (mom, dad, 19yo daughter, 2 dogs) had a fantastic end-of-year getaway at the Hartford House! We've been coming to Cambria for 25 years and always stay in a vacation rental. We had never stayed in this part of town before. We loved the location! It was so great to be able to walk down the hill to coffee, shops, and restaurants. We even walked to Moonstone Beach and the boardwalk one morning and it was fantastic! Plus you could see the ocean from the great decks they have on the town-side of the house.

There are A LOT of stairs in the house - especially if you're using the guest loft above the garage. Also, taking the dogs outside was always a bit of an adventure - especially for our older dog who kept slipping on the hardwood floors. She spent the whole vacation on the main level because she couldn't manage the stairs without falling.

The fireplaces in the living room and main bedroom are great. Plus having TVs in the living room and both bedrooms was a nice touch. Kitchen was well equipped though we didn't do much cooking with all the great restaurants Cambria has to offer. (Especially Linn's for breakfast, lunch, and baked treats!) Couches and beds were comfortable - though the display on the sleep number bed remote in the main bedroom was broken so it took a little guesswork to get it adjusted.

We would definitely stay here again.

We enjoyed the vacation rental. Home nicely cleaned, plenty of room, kitchen well stocked. Played ping pong, took walks along Moonstone Beach, shopping and great restaurants. The home has many stairs so be prepared to go up and down stairs. We will rent again in the future.

Lovely house. Nice deck to sit on and look over the main street of cambria. The kitchen has everything you need. It was really nice to have the option to use the built in puppy gates for our girl. Would definitely stay again.

Breen House was spacious and decorated very nicely. Everything was very clean. Four gals shared house so 4 beds were perfect. Didn't know "Guest house" was thru garage door and up steep flight of stairs but wasn't a problem. Nice surprise to find it had it's own kitchen as well as bathroom and the 2 of us who shared it loved the skylight. Didn't mind reusing towels but 2 per guest would have been nice (stay wasn't lng enough to do laundry) Overall, we were very pleased with Breen House and would stay again in a heartbeat.

We had a wonderful family vacation at the Hartford home. We loved having three levels for 6 of us. The house was clean and plenty of space to gather. We enjoyed the proximity to town and the different decks with nice views. We would definitely book this comfy and beautiful home again.

Our family enjoyed this spacious rental. There are spaces for everyone to enjoy together or separately. It is located close to other cities and/or attractions which were on our list to visit.

It was clean and the Breen staff was very responsive and professional. The house decor and finishes were a little “tired”, and the location too near rte1, so we had car noise. Next time, we will select something a little closer to woods and beach.

Very nice, bright, quiet and with a great view. Walking distance to Main Street, makes it very convenient. House has a lot of stairs, so may not be suitable for the elderly or those with small children. Garage door height is for standard vehicles- sedans, SUVs, but too low for Vans, in our case a Volkswagen Vanagon. Ample space to park in front of house, on the car port. Property Management was top notch in customer service, personally called to update us on billing, house availability and early check in. We had a very enjoyable & relaxing time, and would definitely come back.

We loved staying at the Hartford house! Beautiful, clean, airy home that was great for 6 adults. The living space with the two single beds has steep stairs up to it, should only be used for people who can navigate that. We absolutely enjoyed our stay here and would stay again.

The property was nice with a good ocean view. The house has a lot of steps and stairs, so carrying groceries will require more effort. Ways too many signs and reminders everywhere, it’s overwhelming! We’re always renting with Breen but recent encountered with a “rude” maintenance “Richard” will make us think twice.

My family enjoyed coming to this rental as it was in a great location overlooking Main Street Cambria, walking distance to the local coffee shop and about 2 miles from Moon Stone beach and our favorite restaurant in the area: The Sea Chest. Easy 10 minute drive to San Simeon / Hearst Castle and about 20 mins to the amazing Elephant Seal sanctuary. The rental was very spacious - it has its own “guest house” with its own kitchen and bath above the garage and also the main house has plenty of room to spread out. Kitchen was fully stocked and had everything we needed to cook our own meals and the BBQ on the balcony was used a couple of times including to cook a delicious Hearst Beef Tri-Tip. We’d definitely look to come back and stay here - Hartford House was perfect for us.

We stayed at the Hartford House for our Christmas Holiday with our friends. The house is beautifully appointed. Kitchen is equipped with most of the things we needed. The house was clean. You should know that the 3rd bedroom is not part of the main house but is on top of the garage. It is located up a VERY steep set of stairs. The doors in the unit do not close as the house as settled and they aren't plumb. The ceiling in the upstairs unit are about 7' if even that. The shower stall is very small and there is a slant to the wall that makes it very difficult to wash yourself if you're taller than 5'5".
We did encounter a major plumbing problem in the kitchen. The drain was extremely slow and was backing up in to the sink. I took out the pea trap and and it didn't help drain anything. We called the Breen office and were told they were calling a plumber. Hours later we didn't hear back so I called again. I was told the plumbers were out of town for the weekend. They said the maintenance man would come by for a look. At 4:50 I called again and no answer. I called the emergency number and the maintenance guy said he didn't know about our problem. But he could come take a look, that this is an on-going problem at Hartford. I told him not to come as we had already done what he could do. We bailed water out of the sink and fixed our dinner. We never heard back from the office! Ridiculous! I even texted the owner of Breen and he never texted me back. Very disappointed in this property manager. Lack of communication from the start to the end.

If you travel with your dogs(s)or anyone unstable, be warned there are considerable stairs. Our older dog could not make it and I was carrying her up every time. Stairs to Guest Apartment are very steep! The house is also on a steep hill. Not a problem for us - but should be considered.

Our only criticism would be: the least outfitted kitchen we've experienced and we have rented many homes in Cambria.

This place was beautiful. Very large, clean, nice view. It was also very conveniently located walking distance to the West Village. Breen Vacation Station were really nice, and responsive. And, you get a bottle of wine upon check in!

Very lovely, spacious, well appointed home. Lots of noise from the highway and the main road which travels up the hill to the house at all hours. Other than that it's very conveniently located and nice. Comfy beds and furniture, nice kitchen.

We Chose this residence as a getaway for my wife, my college age daughter, as well as my mother and step father. For my wife and I, we were looking to escape the chaos of our busy work schedules. For my mother, I felt she was due for a quiet, relaxing time after completing several months of cancer treatment. As I approached the home, I already knew this was the place for me and my family. It’s located on a lush, hillside, with the quaint city/village of Cambria a short stroll away. My wife and I opened the door, and my first thought was “Wow!” Everything in the home seemed new and well taken care of. The master bedroom was huge and well decorated. Bed and bedding was comfortable, soft and warm. There are ocean views throughout home, and most prominent in the living room. There are multiple “levels” that have a room in each. This worked great for our situation. We all could hang out together for meals, or relaxing in the family room, or we could retire in the privacy of the room on our “level.” I will absolutely be returning to this property, my only worry is that this place will be in such demand that future availability might be difficult. 5 stars and thanks again!!!!

My wife and I loved the house! We learned the new owners just finished an extensive renovation of the property and it didn't disappoint. They managed to modernize it while still keeping the rustic charm. The amenities were great, this is our new family vacation home rental in Cambria!The neighbors were friendly as well!
